Episode Transcription

From the Department of Theater and Film at the University of Mississippi, this is stage and screen.

Second, hi everyone, and welcome to season three of stage and screen. I'm your host, Kathryn Stewart, and today we just have a quick episode welcoming you to our fall 2022 semester.

It's the first week of class here.

The department is buzzing.

We have a lot going.

On so, this is just a little teaser, a few things we have coming up.

First of all, we have two main stage productions this fall.

The first is into the breach is by George Brant.

If you're not.

Familiar with this play?

It's a comedy set in World War Two that focuses on the Oberon Playhouse, whose director and leading actors are off at war.

In their absence, the directors wife takes it upon herself to mount.

An all female production of Shakespeare's henriad not surprisingly, hilarity ensues. But of course, there's more to it than laughs director Lindsay Rae Taylor, assistant professor of performance, had this to say about the show.

George Brant into the breeches is a heartwarming, captivating comedy that depicts the remarkable way community and art uncover our inner tenacity and spirit even in the most challenging times.

A celebration of collaboration, camaraderie, and perseverance, it is a delightful and moving story that reveals.

The magical healing power of theater.

Into the breach is opens Friday, September 20.

3rd in Meek.

Auditorium and runs through Sunday, October 9th. The opening night performance will be followed by a reception in the Oxford University Depot, and the matinee on Sunday, September 25th will include American Sign Language, interpreting, and live captioning for the accessibility of persons.

Or deaf or hard of hearing.

The second show of our follow up 22 season will be the musical into the woods. I'm sure this very popular, fantastical amalgamation of classic fairy tales needs no further introduction, but about his production director, Dan Stearns, assistant professor of acting, would like audiences to know that if you think you know this show.

You should expect to be surprised.

Well, I know the show, and I am indeed looking forward to being surprised.

Into the woods opens Friday, November 4th in Fulton Chapel and runs through Sunday, November 6th.

The opening night performance will be followed by a reception in the Oxford University Depot, and the Sunday matinee will include ASL interpretation and live captioning services.

We'll have interviews with both directors as well as others involved in these productions in future episodes. You can visit our website at theatreandfilm.edu For more information and to buy tickets. And yes, I will put that link in the show notes.

We also have several new faculty and staff members who joined our department this year, and I look forward to visiting with all of them and giving them an opportunity to introduce themselves and tell you about how they're working with our students.

Lastly, I did want to include a little plug for two student organizations, GOESSLING Repertory Theatre, which is our student run theatre group, and the Umm Film Club which is a project of students in our BFA Film production program and also students in the university's Cinema Minor.

These organizations provide additional opportunities to our students and add value to the Community.

They are both about to announce what they're doing this semester, so I will put links in the show notes so you can check them out.

We'll have all that and more coming up in future episodes, so stay tuned and until next time, this is staged on screen.
